PDA application to order food in a restaurant. The PDA will communicate with the back-end application to display availaible food in the restaurant and it will also submit orders to the restaurant.

Background
Most PDA (personal digital assistant) perform routine time-management tasks using standard applications pre-loaded on the device. However a PDA can be programmed to perform other Data-Processing/">data processing tasks. The purpose of this project is to investigate the capabilities of the PDA as a low cost tool for logging and displaying real-time data. Data will be acquired and sent to the PDA using the device's standard (serial) interface. The data acquisition and transmission can be simulated (on a PC). The project will investigate the maximum rate at which data can be:

and investigate ways to optimize the capacity of the PDA to store the acquired data.
Objectives
To write a Java program (for the PC) to simulate the acquisition of data and transmission via the PC serial port.
To develop a PDA application (in Java) to acquire, display and store the received data.
To use the application to determine maximum limits on performance of the device.
